What's in a [domain] Name? |
 |
Choosing a domain name can be difficult with all the options available to you. If you are looking for a domain name of an existing company the actual choice is limited somewhat to the name or variations of the name. Regardless you should take the following into your final decision:
- Your domain name should be memorable
- The top three tld are still .com, .net, and .org.
- Your domain name should relate to your business or service.
- A "catchy" name is good, but not required, and in some cases can distract from your site.
- Shorter names are usually better
- Business domain names that have the product in the name will help with search engine listings.
These guidelines are all common sense, and most of them relate to being memorable. A short, catchy name (google.com) will stick with a person, but so will some very descriptive names, (www.thebesthostingcompany.com). In the end if you pick a name that feels right to you, it probably is a good domain name. |

Choosing a Registrar |
 |
As mentioned above Nowse Hosting will register your domain name for you if you would like. If on the other hand you'd like to register it yourself, there are several good registrars to pick from
- Godaddy.com ($10.49 per year) We use them
- Godaddy is a little bit on the "shady side" about the way they make you go through hoops to purchase a domain, but I've used them for years and I still think they're one of the best.
- Enom ($9.45) We use them
- Nowse Hosting is affiliated with Enom in that we've pre registered with them. Good value.
- Register4less ($14.95) I have used them
- Register4less doesn't have the best prices, but they do stand behind their customers. I started buying domain names from them in the late nineties for about five years, and in that time their support was good, but their control panel was poor.
